Wanted to document the rough sleeping we've had with Tyson for the last couple weeks! Literally one day he was fine, and the next not at all. I'm still a little perplexed but we're going with it...
Mid July D & I went out to a movie and left Tyson to be put to bed by Autumn. Family kept showing up and we left in the mix and it ended up that Autumn just rocked him in the room for a couple hours till we got home. Poor boy. The next few days he went to bed as normal.
Then Monday night David put him down and he was crying hard and it was a long bed routine. David came in my work office next door so we could listen to him and we pretty quickly heard a thud and the crying get louder...louder... and the office door opened and in walked Tyson. ?!?!?!?
I was completely confused - can't believe he seriously climbed out because he can barely climb up on our couch. Anyway, without much planning we put him back in a few more times and watched how he was able to climb out. Crazy kid - he would just toss himself over! Can't believe he was okay.
To actually get him to sleep that night I had to lay down next to him on the floor and crawl out! Decided that wasn't going to happen again although he asked for days. Every sleep time after this - it was a MAJOR issue. He would scream - like bloody murder - and we'd have to negotiate just to get him to sit down. We gave him a sleeping buddy, teddy bear. We kept his door open if he would sit or not scream. We brought in a fan, a night light, music... all to help him.
First we thought - is it time for a bed change? I am sure not ready for that. At not even 2 and not able to really decide if he should stay in bed or not... we debated that idea and wanted to try to keep him in his crib so we kept trying for a week - dealing with all the crying and negotiating.
After we pushed through, our next thought was - is he afraid of something??? So we gave him music, more light, door open, and reassurance that we would come get him when it was time. THAT is what made the most sense after we saw his reaction turn good on all that. Not sure what scared him besides the window or just it being dark or the door closed, but slowly, he made it easier to sleep. Thank goodness! If it had been any harder we may have changed his bed.
Looking now - he's doing lots better. We have a new bed routine but he goes down just fine and yells for us when he's ready to get up and although his door is open and we have to be even more quiet (dude that kid is such a light sleeper) it is all good.
Thanks for the ride buddy, you really tested us on this one! Not excited to change your bed when that time does come, but we'll get to that eventually. Lets hope we have at least 6+ more months ;)
Oh man that sounds rough!! You are amazing!! Glad hes doing better! Love the new picture at the top of your blog! I couldn't see it when I'm on my phone for some reason. :)
