At Dads we did Christmas the first evening. We were able to get more rest than normally with school and work, although I just couldn't sleep in too much. Am I getting too old that my body doesn't let me sleep in?!?! Oh no. I seriously yawned all the time this vacation, guess I had a lot of sleep to catch up on from the year. Tuesday we did some quick errands and then we had visitors, Dwight & Ann, Diane's brother. I hadn't seen them for years! And Bri & Co came over as well with little Max. We had a nice dinner and chatted. Wednesday was the "clean out the storage" day. I had several boxes at the storage unit that were packed up with one of the moves, so I helped them get rid of the extra "$20" as they mentioned. Beck & Co came over in the evening and we had dinner and played games with our nieces and nephew. They are such a cute family and we loved having extra time with them. Thursday we woke up late and had lunch with Dad & Diane before heading out to Moms. We enjoyed our time with them and even had a few late nights (like 10pm for my dad) with Grimm and showing them how to play apps - Words with Friends :) Sadly we didn't get any pictures...
At Moms we did Christmas also the first evening with her. Friday we woke up and eventually got ready. Mom had several errands so we ended up staying home and actually started packing up my childhood room. Somehow I didn't have to do that while in college, I guess since there are only 2 kids, we had free storage. Here are some pics of before.
And below are some youthful art work... I did keep some, but the larger or older items I took pictures of them and that is how I will save them.
Friday evening we headed out to see the Arizona temple lights. So strange that it isn't snowing or anything! 75 degrees in winter, oh how I forgot about that. It still did get a little chilly at night for me. The AZ lights were fun to see and take my D to see where we'd come each year. After the temple lights we went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory still just the 3 of us and headed home to watch Super 8 and sleep.
Saturday we continued the room clean out and got all of my keepsakes in the closet - what a great accomplishment in 2 half days! After lunch we took Mom's car and drove to see Eric at his work. He's doing video editing, my dream honestly, and it was neat to see his office. E&A showed us around and sure did remind me that I need to work on my video editing skills, and future photography skills. One thing I am passionate about and need to develop my talents on. We followed them to see their recently purchased home in Gilbert! Another thing that reminded me - oh wait - we aren't going to have a place that is "ours" for several more years. But it was great to see all they had done to make their house their home. They have nice space and even a pool! Good to be able to imagine where they are when we chat, etc. Saturday evening was New Years Eve! All 5 of us went out to dinner at My Big Fat Greek Wedding restaurant. I was pretty excited since I really haven't had Greek food since my mission. It was good! I don't even know what it's called, but the lasagna looking item with meat and potatoes and stuff layered together - definitely good Greek food. After dinner we decided to go home and play games to celebrate the New Year. We had fireworks (a whole post devoted to this next)... a kiss at midnight, and that was about it. It was great hanging with E&A - wish we lived closer so that we could actually hang out. Someday right? Who knows when, but if not, we'll still keep in touch.
Sunday we flew home. It was a packed week! And luckily Sunday and Monday were still part of the holiday so we had an extra day at home to get back into the normal groove. I really didn't want to go back to work, but of course, it happened. And now were back in the grind. Oh fun.
